Why Japan’s Population Is Still Declining - Japanese interview

it's interesting we are all facing similar issues regardless of where you are from. everything's getting expensive, wages aren't going up, and as a result things like starting a family get pushed to the side because it's a struggle just to support yourself. Those same issues are happening in so many places around the world including the US.
Yes, and a big part of the problem is mass immigration. It’s making Americans compete against foreigners and driving down wages, raising home prices, etc.
kiwe3546 disagree entirely. most of the jobs that immigrants are getting in the US are jobs that Americans aren't taking to begin with. The real issue is big corporations outsourcing jobs like manufacturing and tech support to other companies in foreign countries. it's not the people that immigrated here that are stealing jobs, its greedy corporations taking jobs away from the US because they can pay those in other countries less money.
@kiwe3546 Lmao they do the work that Americans don’t want to do.
@kiwe3546 and home prices are skyrocketing because of greedy corporations buying them up as investment. look up who's buying all the real estate, it's investment firms and other Americans buying them up to rent or flip for profit. regular Americans can't afford homes because of greed from fellow citizens, not because of foreigners.
@fluxuation87 Without mass immigration, those jobs “Americans won’t do” would pay more, and Americans would be doing them.
@angelgomez7081 Americans would do them if immigrants weren’t driving down the wages.
@fluxuation87 in Canada, many Chinese investors are buying property here and we let in sooo many immigrants, we are now 40 million in Canada, many don't have a place to live
I don't think it's an issue of things getting expensive, it's just that children are a economic negative. In the past, when most people were farmers, you could expect your children to provide help for you later in life and having a lot of children meant having a lot of providers.

The way I look at it, Japan already has too many people and it is causing issues with overcrowding. They have something like 125 million ethnic Japanese in Japan, more than many other nations in fact. Decreasing the population isn't a bad thing for future resources.
I feel it in Europe as well.
Things are not so expensive in Japan.
Recently, there have been many crimes committed by foreigners in Japan, and it seems that Japanese people discriminate against foreign men and use violence against them.
But Japanese people are kind to foreign women.
I think the reason for the declining birthrate in Japan may be the imbalance between work and life. Many Japanese people who are married sometimes prioritize work too much and tend to get divorced because of that. I think if we improve the work culture, it’ll create more stability for families. If people have to work overtime, I think they should get paid more so then they can provide stability for their family a lot easier.
I've been to Japan many times and learned the attitude of many of the Japanese people towards these many issues. I also engaged in conversations where I heard that children would be a burden towards getting on with work and career. I must say that I consider this an unfortunate attitude. Both your government and your employers should do everything possible to help with your family life because your children are future. Here in Europe new parents get a lot of paid leave and especially mothers get a lot of support from employers. I feel that all of you Japanese people should definitely demand more support from your leaders and employers.
Thanks for your video. We`ve been living in Tokyo for 8 years and we see the problem that you talk about. Wages have not been increasing for the past 20 years, but taxes and inflation have increased. This means that real wages have decreased. We are considering leaving in the near future as we expect inflation to further increase and wages to continue to remain flat. This means it would be hard for foreigners to actually retire in Japan after moving here as there is a high likelihood of entering a poverty trap in future.

I think this isn’t just an issue in Japan, but a challenge faced by many developed countries.
As a Japanese person myself, it seems to me like a lot of people here in Japan are pretty set against accepting immigrants from other countries. I can understand that, but the problem is that they just say no without suggesting any solution...
It's an issue in other developed countries too but the difference is Japan's elderly population is growing at a much faster rate and other developed countries (like Canada and Australia) can attract a lot of immigrants, so the decline is not as severe as Japan's.
Migration is not the solution. If kids are not affordable, it‘ll never change.
@dreadogastusf3548 Japan’s birth rate is actually pretty good compared to other developed countries. It’s just that Japan doesn’t let in a lot of immigrants. If you see the birth rate of the pure native people, most developed countries are worse than Japan.
Korea is not a "developed country" but we r already facing similar problems. The lowest birth rate after Monaco?
@JorgeIgnacioCisnerosSaldana
They work so hard there is no time to make babies.
It's a challenge most severely faced by Asian countries, and in fact Chinese and south Koreans have it much worse than Japanese. There are declining populations in western countries but nowhere near as severe as in Asia.
Japan needs diversity. Let more blacks in!

But among developed countries, Japan is the only one where the wages are stuck since the middle 90’s. All others keep raising them.
