We have to make a distinction between India the region and India the country. India the region existed for thousands of years and is a home of one of the world’s great civilizations. No one disputes that. India the country however, only came into existence in 1947, when it gained its independence from Britain. Prior to that, there were great empires in India, like the Mauryan empire, the Gupta empire, Sultanate of Delhi, and the Mogul empire but none of those great empires were officially called India. The nation of India that appeared in 1947 was the first Indian entity that officially called itself India. The same is true of Greece. There was a region called Greece but prior to 1830, there has never been a country that called itself Greece.

It is not right to conclude that people don't accept ancient India existed. As a matter of fact many europeans contributed to discover ancient India. Well,you are right that even today many indians and colonial writers deny for their vested interest. They are indian communists,islamists and people from christian missionary. They are compelled to deny glory of ancient India to create an ideological and cultural vacuum and emptiness so that they can plant and enforce their own agenda .But it will never happen. There was an Indian Subcontinent but no Indian Nation before the British Raj unified the area as a single country. Rather there were a multitude of city-states who were mostly ar war with each other. The British took advantage of this to finally unify the territory once control; was achieved. Now, Indian civilizations did indeed exist well before modern times, and the Indian Civilization has a good claim to be the oldest in the world, extending even into pre-historic times.
