My wife and I visited China 5 times in the 2 years before covid. Spent 6 nights in Chongqing and found it very safe, just like every other place we visited. We''d wander streets at night - even parks - and never once felt threatened though we were both in our late 60s. Fantastic country and people.

Just go to this world-widely known city, give it a try and take a late night walk across that downtown area by yourself. There’s no reason for you to refuse to do so coz the CCTV ehh?

I am malaysian, now living in dongguan. I can say that not only in chong qing is safe even in dongguan its also very safe. I can say nows a day china is the safer country in the world. China gov is doing a great job in the public security. I had also meet alots of friend who came from other country and they all also told me that china is very safe country they always hang out with friend in mid night.

I use Toronto as an example because that's my city. You will have people preaching about politics or religion in 1 corner, another corner you will have people protesting about anything. And then you will have people smoking weed, littering the streets here and homeless people there... Nothing pleasant walking in downtown anymore

I was in Chongqing during the hectic May Labour Day holiday (video coming next week) and it was incredible!! I’ve never seen that many people in one place at one time… Never for a second felt unsafe, however. Even in ways you wouldn’t think of. For example, I was near the bridge with hundreds of thousands of others. In many other countries, this amount of people could lead to a stampede. Not here in China!! They had policeman directing crowds, making sure everywhere was okay, closing off areas before they got overwhelmed. Excellent

My favourite city is Chengdu however I will definitely go to Chongqing when I am home this summer, it is on the list , Julia looks awesome btw

For slower cities, go to Chengdu, Chongqing. For beautiful scenery, I recommend Guilin or Zhangjiajie. Of course, these are just the cities I've been to, just the tip of the iceberg. It would take at least six months to visit or eat all over China

@ The Sand Queen - yup thats a wise decision. Quickly go visit China while u still can, what with the current sabre-rattling display that the West is showing China lately and upping the ante each day too. I am from a modern and affluent country (not US) and had always thought that no other modern cities elsewhere would awe me much. having seen it all in modern infrastructures and such, until .........I visited Shanghai in 2019 ! Goodness me !! I already knew that China isn't what it used to be and is very developed now but I wasn't quite prepared to see how incredibly advanced and beautiful it really is ! Fantastically designed skyscrapers everywhere, mega-sized malls, beautiful pedestrians walkways lined with rows and rows of shops, eateries at every corners you turn, leisure & entertainment avenues, huge parks meticulously kept (and SAFE !) etc etc .....Comes nightfall the whole place turns into a display of dazzling and colorful lightshow, even roads and pavements are lined with lights wrapped over trees and buildings, like having festive seasons all year round. Further at the outskirts, are beautiful too.with immaculately maintained old preserved water-towns, with canal running through and gondolas on it. Everywhere is just so clean and never for a moment, whether day or night, did I feel unsafe at all. We go where we please, at anytime of the day and night. And yea, the best thing is...everything is so affordable there. Ends up buying tons of stuffs which I don't usually do when on holidays elsewhere. Lol. So, make that plan and GO ! U ain't gonna regret it for sure !
是的，这是一个明智的决定。趁你还可以，赶快去访问中国吧，西方最近对中国炫耀武力，并且每天都在加大赌注。我来自一个现代化的富裕国家(不是美国)，我一直认为，在其他地方，没有哪个现代化城市能让我高看。我看过很多现代化基础设施，直到.........2019年去过上海！天哪！！我已经知道中国不是过去的样子了，现在非常发达，但我还没准备好去看看它到底有多先进和美丽！到处都是设计奇特的摩天大楼、大型购物中心、美丽的人行道、鳞次栉比的商店、街角的餐馆、休闲娱乐大道、精心维护的大型公园(而且安全！)等.....夜幕降临时，整个地方变成了炫目多彩的灯光秀，就连道路和人行道上都挂满了灯，包裹着树木和建筑，就像一年到头都有节日一样。再远一点的郊区也很美，有保存完好的古老水乡，有运河穿过，还有平底船。到处都是如此干净，无论白天还是晚上，我从来没有感到不安全。我们想去哪里就去哪里，在白天和晚上的任何时候。是的，最棒的是，那里的一切都很实惠。最终买了很多我在其他地方度假时通常不会买的东西。哈哈，所以，制定计划，开始行动吧！你肯定不会后悔的！
