Since you are in Changchun now, try the 油茶面 or 油炒面there. Other than names, they are quite different from the Guangxi 油茶. Though I don''t care about it as a young kid, I definitely grow to love it much more.

I''ve actually had pumpkin cake before in America. At the time, someone else ordered it, I didn''t know it was a Guangxi dish. It was good, but mostly tasted like sticky rice with dark sugar with the outside tasted like a Japanese tempura pork cutlet.

Back in the mid 80''s for about 10 years I was a Tour Director & dreaded arriving to Guilin and more than once instant noodles was the better alternative. The scenery was magnificent, but the food in Guilin & Xian (except for lamb kebabs) were probably the worst of all cities on any China tour schedule. I am pleased to see that times and the prosperity of Guangxi have changed along with its menus - must go there for a re-visit soon.

There are two traditional dishes called oil tea (油茶） and vegetable tea （菜茶）in my hometown “Shanwei (汕尾）”，which are kind of like the oil tea in your video.
