Bangladesh is preparing to open the nation’s first underwater traffic tunnel in January 2023 after key civil infrastructure works were completed on November 26, 2022. Partially funded by China and built by a Chinese company, the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel under the Karnaphuli River will cut travel time between the Anwara and Patenga in the southeastern city of Chittagong.

Our govt is planning on building another tunnel under the Padma river in Paturia-Dauladia Ferry route. Over 1000 vehicles wait for over 5/6 hours everyday to cross the Padma river via Dauladia-Paturia Ferry Terminal. Its a hectic journey. That''s why after this tunnel project in upcoming project which construction is estimated to start in Mid-2023. It will likely be 3/4 km tunnel.
