Probably just a result of the german Name. In germany those are called "Schützenpanzer" which roughly translates as "marksman tank" whereas tanks are called "Kampfpanzer" which means "fighting tank." So "tank" is referring to a tracked armored vehicle regardless of it's role on the battlefield.

to be fair, Germany supplied Ukraine with anti aircraft vehicles (Gepard-Systems) and even anti aircraft missile systems (Iris-T) long before the States decided to sent Patriot systems.

I agree with Stoltenberg's remarks and also with the characterization that Russia needs to lose this war. If it doesn't then we are setting ourselves up for decades of conflict ahead because every nation that has a grievance with some other will decide that war is an acceptable solution to a political problem. You only have to look back through European history to see what the consequence of a such a world view will lead to. We are not just talking about World War I and II but also the various Napoleonic wars of the 18th century and even as far back as the wars between the various city states of Greece and Italy. That's what awaits us if the West allows Russia to have its way in Ukraine!

Those old IFVs are still a lot better than the BMP1s Ukraine uses. They have modern optics and ammo and offer much more protection. BMPs are only armored against rifle ammo.

This decision is a NATO agreement, though; I don't agree with singling out Germany for sticking to a collective decision when everyone else including the US does the same thing. As much as I'd agree that it would be nice if Germany would be the one doing a "First" for a change, this kind of narrative is just scapegoating to take pressure off other countries' politicians.
Furthermore, we have Macron to thank for this. Both Biden and Scholz had to follow suit after Paris made the decision to send the AMX.

I think many of us are ashamed of our respective countries for their lame initial responses.....lip service is tiresome when you look at the grit, resolve, resourcefulness and resilience of the everyday Ukranian, fighting for freedom on the behalf of many.
