The people who are stationed in japan see it as them just having fun and letting loose and the locals are there to serve them because they have a level of amnesty for their crimes. A similar situation happens in south korea around its military bases.

@ii I truly doubt that. A lot of americans truly love Japanese people and their culture some to the point of obsession. Based of crime statistics here in America it must be related to our military's more....darker skinned troops. The majority of them are just not as civilized as everyone else.

As an American, I'm not fully sure if a base is necessary.Personally, it improves the United States power.It also provides some protection for the Japanese people.Then again, I do think at least, the Japanese deserve some more public knowledge regarding the base.

@Ahad One On one side, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. On the other, the United States dropped a massive bomb on Hiroshima. The United States helping a country that bombed them and Japan accepting support from a country that took thousands of lives for revenge. However, things do change and people move on. Now I believe that Japan and the United States are close in a sense. This is all my opinion, though.

I think a US military presence will still remain necessary, but it should be extremely downscaled especially due to the unfair treatment for the people of Okinawa/Ryukyu in particular.

It's not up to the Japanese to vote or decide whether the US bases will stay. They lost the war and any right to decide this issue; they are in effect still conquered by the US. As long as US wants to stay the bases will remain.

Japan is a sovereign nation. The United States needs to realize that. We have major issues at home
