The court was supposed to be at least 20 metres from residential buildings but it's actually 2 metres away, so in fact it's right outside their window. Yeah I agree the mother shouldn't have vandalised, but in a country where education means could make or break your future, it's understandable the mother reacted so harshly. Her daughter looks old enough to be in her final years of high school and if you read about their gao kao you'll know how big of a deal it is. It obviously is not the first time there are people playing basketball outside her window and she probs complained with no result. Seems like they're at boiling point and the mother decided to take matters into her own hands. I blame the authorities and the developers more than I blame the mother.
I lived in china for almost 2 years and I can tell you, like many other asian countries have no consideration for noise pollution. I lived on the ground floor in china and for a few months the flat above me started drilling their floors at 7am in the morning on saturday and sunday. It's like they're drilling into my head, and it continued all the way to evening by which time it feels like the drill had gone through my whole body. I ended up having to leave my place for the whole day to avoid it. My brother currently lives in vietnam and the coffee shop beneath him start blasting their stereo from 6am. The authorities won't do anything about it so you either put up with it or you try to reason with them, emphasis TRY.

@Evelyn Farfellwooosh That's why I said I might've, the human mind can make choices based on the situation, and the decisions are made based on the intentions of the person.
The mother's intentions was to make sure the daughter studies well, which means that she has to do everything to make sure, in my opinion.
Of course, it is childish, but there are people who might agree with what the mother did, and people who really do not like how the situation is being solved by the mother.

is that made of interlocking mats or something similar? if so then… while she “destroyed” it, it seems like it could be fairly easily put back together. regardless glad they are moving the courts to a place where it should be according to their regulations.

There are other compromises like headphones, music, library, going another area like the park or friend’s house. Or she could just study after they leave which is supposedly after sunset.

There’s a basketball court around 200 meters from my house and people are playing on it all day long.
But once my drone had run out of batteries and it did a emergency landing on the court the guys were really nice about it and even moved it to the side for me so I don’t mind the noise anymore

It's an illegal basketball court, it violates regulations by being too close to the homes, she didn't choose for it to be there and living beside a basketball court is very noisy as it is, even more so when it's right outside your window. There are rules for a reason, to prevent situations like this.

Noise pollution is hazardous to our health and what this mother did forced the local authorities to relocate the basketball court and what she received is just a warning from the police. I say kudos to her for taking matters into her hands. I doubt the local authorities would even care about her complaints if she didn't do this.
