I give up, the Tories are simply the asshole party, I don't have extreme enough words to describe how they are at the forefront of cruelty to people and animals at every opportunity. I thought Trump took it to the narcissistic openly malicious extreme and here in the UK there was more common sense and empathy but no, whether it's for distractions from their corruption and total incompetence on Brexit and other matters or for any other reason, they're just absolutely malicious assholes.

I read an article about how the Guardsmen trialled a few different synthetic hats several years ago that looked identical to the traditional bear skin hats, but they had to cut it short as the feedback was that the trialled hats were either not waterproof, or when they were waterproof, they were freezing cold and conducted the cold air onto their heads.
The conclusion was that bear skin was the only material they could find that was both waterproof and warming. They make sure that the skin is farmed in a sustainable and conservative manner and they will continue to do so until a much more suitable material is found.

There is a difference. I eat meat and I do what I can to source it from as ethical sources as possible; using local butchers and local farms - avoiding chicken and pork in favour of ruminants.
There is a huge difference between an animal living a reasonable stress free life and then meeting a swift end and the production of a food stuff, Foie Gras, which can only really be produced via a cruel process. (if it can be produced without force feeding, then I'd be in favour of that being allowed - in fact I'd encourage it so as not to have a black market in the abusive stuff).

Another example: in Germany beer made there must follow the reinheitsgebot to be able to be called beer. But Germany isn't allowed to implement that rule on foreign beer, and it can't stop the import of foreign beers from within the EU.
Meaning all the French, Belgian, Danish etc. beer in German shops might not legally be allowed if they had been brewed within Germany itself. But Germany isn't allowed to ban its import.

For non-consumables there is at least an argument. I.e. it can be difficult to tell if its new or existing etc.
But for something like fois gras.. literally no justification. Either its banned on welfare concerns so how do those not apply to imported stuff?
