We took a trip into Rongchang district during our last venture to Chongqing. This is a very quiet, rural area where a young couple make their living by making pottery the old-fashioned way with a wooden kiln.. is this the perfect life to live in rural China?

I was very impressed with what this young couple have created in rural China: their lifestyle, their unique surroundings etc. They kept the old buildings, gutted the interiors and transformed them into modern spaces for work and relaxation. The tree house is to die for. I envy them! This is an eye-opener for people like me living in the West. So, many thanks to you, Lee and Ollie, for bringing this unique experience to us.

this is the newr enough perfect life for me. if they arent far from the city or town centre. thats perfect , its exactly what we want.. but I definitely need to be 15 - 20 minutes withing driving distance of city or town center, I wouldnt want to go full rural.. cities for play, rural to live..

thats amazing, thatll do me, doing something you love. 3000 yuan per pot that aint bad money. and if you got collectors on board, china the market is so big you could make dreams like this happen.. i think its amazing seeing people just doing what they love and making a living from it. what its bladdy all about. i want a set of those cups. haha even when we drink english tea. my parents per say, theyre pretty fussy, and theres not many people that actually can make a good tea. alot of people dont squeeze the tea bags and dont let it soak long enough. then theres the balance of milk.. most enlgish people do make really bad tea and coffee lol honestly like Ollie said its just thrown together and you can tell, taste like water and milk lol... take ya time man let it soak squeeze it and get it right and english Tea is can be amazing. and coffee its even more rare someone makes a good coffee that not out the machine.

Actually, I have read and seen on Youtube that, instead of destroying them, a lot of Hutongs in China have been preserved and restored and outfitted with the trappings of modern life.

That’s true. The government has used discretion in balancing between development and preserving legacies. In Beijing, some hutongs have been torn down to make way for needed infrastructure expansion and new developments while others have been preserved. Likewise in Shanghai, some of the old houses in the international settlements have been cleared out while the more iconic parts of the settlement have been preserved and rejuvenated.

I’d the rural part of china has some major problems. It’s not like the American countryside that people usually recognize, because many rich republicans would choose to live in the countryside as well as many middle classes; therefore, average income for rural dwellers in the US is higher than folks in China. Another major problem is the Chinese urbanization project. The young generations seek higher development in finance and education in cities, so a decreasing trend for population occurs in the Chinese rural areas. It causes a insufficient communal facility service and construction. Many rural parts or semi-rural parts(城乡结合部) are very dirty due to the incapability of garbage disposal which also pollutes nearby water sources( that’s why many rivers are dirty as well). I hope after a major development is urban areas, the government would start focusing on developing rural parts of the country as well!
我认为中国的农村有一些很大的问题，它不像人们通常所认识的美国乡村，因为许多富有的美国人会选择住在乡村，就像许多中产阶级一样。因此，美国农村居民的平均收入要高于中国。
