My highly literate, liberal, kind, caring friend lives 30 miles north of LA. He has two AR15s, both with bump stop automatic fire mechanisms, a tactical shotgun, a Glock 9mm and his father’s Colt .45. He also tells me that he has ample ammunition to defend his wife and property from any kind of attack.
By contrast, I have only a smile and kind words to protect me - and I feel blessed that this is all that I need to feel safe in England.

Depending on where you live there’s a lot of crime in Britain. The big difference is that most criminals aren’t armed with guns.
Knives aren’t “armament?”
Well evidently not so much in the UK. The US has a higher rate of knife attacks than does the UK. Knifing is actually pretty rare in the UK except for rare occasions of teen gangs fighting each other. There is crime in the UK but compared to the US not a lot.
If indeed there is more “knife” crime here in the US, it is more than likely due to the fact that our population is far larger than yours. Though, I must say, I don’t think your comment is true. Last I saw, the UK and especially Scotland, had the highest number of knife related incidents in all of Europe.
Why didn't you simply Google the comparative knife crime stat's?
“There were 34 firearm homicides in the US per million of population in 2016, compared with 0.48 shooting-related murders in the UK.
Knife murders are also higher stateside: there were 4.96 homicides “due to knives or cutting instruments” in the US for every million of population in 2016.
In Britain there were 3.26 homicides involving a sharp instrument per million people in the year from April 2016 to March 2017.”
I suggest you google UK and US violent crimes per capita, you may learn something,
What I found as well, was that England alone has something like 600 murders by knife per year (and 26,370 knife crimes) (2015). Compare that to only 1,500 for the U.S., with over 5 times the population. Home invasion robberies, aggravated assault, violent rape, and stabbings are worse in the UK than in the U.S.
Sorry, but that is patently untrue.
In 2015 the UK had a knife murder rate of 3.23 per million, compared to a US rate of 4.9.
I’d check that 600 figure if I were you, it sounds like stabbings, not fatal stabbings.
As I've said elsewhere, if having a gun is necessary to feel safe, then you're not really free!
Owning a gun & feeling safe are not connected. Guns are just fun!
Americans feel safe with a gun. They ignore the fact that there are those who get shot by a robber with their own gun. Remember that if a robber enters your home at night then he is awake, but you have to wake up get your gun, load it and then shoot. By that time you have already been shot by the robber.
In the US, known gun collectors are frequently the target of attacks by criminals. Some 300K guns are stolen annually from registered US gun owners.
Is he planning on going to war or something?
my son was mugged in London by two guys and knieves He called the police and they told him to file the complaint online and they will get back to him . Never did safe my ass. Lots of cases like this.

I’m Canadian and feel exactly like you do. However, I see signs of the “gun culture” moving into Eastern Canada. U.S. immigrants more than likely. Hopefully our stricter gun laws will put an end to that.
The same thing in Canada, but there are hunting rifles. These days I am so thankful not to be a US citizen.
Who’s going to attack him? I lived in the center of Detroit for 19 years and still don’t own a gun.
I don't feel safe unarmed in England. I feel under threat constantly.
Most Americans will prefer American, most Britons will prefer Britain.
It's not that safe in poor areas
Answering as someone who has lived in UK (1 year) and USA (3 years now) but is not a native of any of these 2 countries.
Public Transport - UK has better public transport than USA, In the USA it is very difficult to manage without a car. I lived for a year in UK (Reading) and never felt the need to buy one. I could get a bus every 10 minutes to town center from (literally) any neighborhood.

I grew up in the UK and have mainly lived rurally. I disagree slightly with the formal attire. For young people it seems to be about the same on both sides of the pond. I’d say generally people dress up more for work in the UK but only in certain industries. In my job our dress code was ‘business casual’ so most of the mean would wear a shirt but no tie and polo shirts are fine. The women wear whatever really, black jeans and a blouse or T-shirt and skirt.
Not to forget the Tip Culture in US..
How long ago did you live in the UK? Because attire and clothing is not like that at all now.
It was in year 2014–15.
Also point number 4 also not correct technically, it depends on what you want to see. I have lived in the UK for 5 years, US 2 years. US is at least 40 times bigger than the UK and has more places to see within the country without the need to do costly visas or anything. For example, what you see in Miami is totally different in Arizona or even Portland, also you have Canada, Mexico, Caribbean and a whole lot of Latin countries to see.
I think you are completely off base. America has wonderful public transportation systems as well as international cuisine. All of the major cities in America have amenities that far outweigh anything offered in the UK.
There are loads of Indian restaurants in all major cities in the USA but not like the UK. but the Indian restaurants in the USA do the buffet, compared to the UK where they are there to rip off the customer. In states, you can still have a nice buffet for 12, 13 dollars, which would cost around 20 plus pounds in UK
