Japanese softball pitcher Miu Goto will have her Olympic gold medal replaced after her hometown’s mayor, Takashi Kawamura, chomped on the original, Tokyo 2020 organisers said on August 12, 2021.

At an event celebrating the athlete’s victory last week, the Nagoya mayor also reportedly asked Goto if she was “prohibited from having romantic relationships”. He later apologised for his actions and “remarks that went too far”.
