One person has been shot dead and another seriously injured in front of a hospital in Paris in a suspected assassination.

The gunman is said to still be at large after fleeing on either motorcycle or a scooter after the attack in the 16th arrondissement.

A source said the injured person is now being treated at the Henry Dunant hospital in front of which they had been shot.

The person killed is said to be a man and the wounded person is a woman who was working as a security guard.

Police have quickly opened a murder inquiry and launched a manhunt in the aftermath.

Witnesses have described the incident as what looked like a "targeted assassination".

Local police unx spokesman Noura Berrahmoune confirmed: "It looks like a settling of scores."

And the owner of a neighbouring restaurant told BFMTV: "I saw a man in a black parka open fire and another man fall to the ground.

"He shot him twice in the head. Then he calmly walked off and a moped was waiting for him several hundred metres away."
