There is nothing gender specific about necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings. Historically men have worn jewelry as symbols of wealth, fashion or beauty.
Today, jewelry is typically marketed mainly to women. Can we dismantle this? I think it is cool when guys where jewelry and it looks fashionable on them. One guy I know wears several bracelets and rings and it is dope. I think tiktok is picking up on it, but can we make it so more men feel comfortable doing what ever the fuck they want fashion wise without having negative consequences?
Edit: I am not talking about the occasional chain or a wedding band, I’m talking extravagant and flowery shit that gets labeled feminine so men aren’t typically allowed to wear.

I feel like fashion brands and counterculture keep trying to make this a thing, but conservatives are just not having it. Like how men often wore earrings in the 80s, skaters and surfers often wore necklaces in the 90s, punk/goth guys wore makeup and piercings in the early 2000s, etc. I think the problem is that men in places like Seattle that are more "safe" to be gender-non-conforming either end up having to stop dressing like that for their job or just get sucked into insular communities, while men in other places that are more conservative are terrified of getting beaten up in public. Still, it's an important step forward that needs to be taken. I'm really glad we're starting to see more gender-non-conforming men in Hollywood and the music industry, like Billy Porter and Lil Nas X. Hopefully normalizing it in media will slowly trickle down into the rest of society, but I'm not sure I have high hopes at this point.

You're on the edge of an excellent point here.
The way I see it, Western White Christian culture, like in Utah where OP lives, spends a lot of time and energy making sure men are standardized. Similar beliefs, ideas of gender, means of expression, etc etc. Individuals aren't a necessary part of the culture, men are meant to be interchangeable cogs in one societal machine.
So, jewelry. Its expression, its a mark of individuality. The groups you mentioned, goths, punks, skaters, gays; they're all "out-groups". In mainstream society men aren't allowed jewelry; no ornamentation, no tattoos, no piercings for men, no long hair etc etc. Cultural norms forbid it, as long as you want to be a redblooded straight man!
Break these stereotypes and taboos, boys. Its your body, not society's: Own it.

The biggest one of these that I see a lot of flex on is tattoos. I think those are being really broadly normalized across race, gender, social class, etc. Justin Trudeau has a couple tattoos, Jack Dorsey of Twitter has a really visible one. I'm in tech and right now, changing attitudes combined with demand for talent seems to really be opening the door to people who present differently. To be fair, a lot of businessmen wear jewelry. It's just the conservative macho type of jewelry they feel they can get away with, like class rings and gold watches. Some of them do wear necklaces under their suits too. It's wild how much secret femininity some guys manage to squeeze into their lifestyle, all while trying to appear super hetcis macho on the outside.

I know the kind of thing you mean, but I feel like a businessman is wearing a Rolex as a financial statement rather than an expression of his self.
Class rings are from colleges? I've never heard of them, I guess they're like a graduation thing? If so, that's an identifier, not an expression of self either. It is jewelry, but its used for a purpose, not as OP was talking about.
But then, that is how jewelry has been used historically too: to denote rank and wealth and importance. Kings and priests and warriors would decorate themselves to show their status, why not a businessman?

I would argue that a man like that likely forms his identity around his career and his income (and ability to buy a Rolex) is inextricably lixed to that.
I may not value it the way he (this hypothetical businessman) does but that doesn't make it something different than "an expression of his self."

I would argue a class ring is an expression of self as well (very big with military colleges, btw). It is a statement of accomplishment: "I graduated from the Citadel." Stating your affiliations is an expression of self. At least as much as wearing any other mass produced clothing is.

I’m lucky that most men’s shirts are in blue, a colour which suits me, but I’d love to strike out with some patterns and different colour combinations.

I’m fully on board with what you say. The shirts I saw were casual button-up blouses/shirts, and I’m just worried the cut won’t work on me. But maybe I can look through the pages and see if there’s something else suitable.

I went clothing shopping with my mom recently. After a while she just says "I guess the only colors are blue and white?" Yes, mom. If you're shopping for a conservative office job that's it. She managed to spot a green shirt and felt very accomplished.
Luckily, I too look good in blue. Red makes me look like I'm sun burnt and yellow makes me look jaundiced.

Hairstyles is what kills me. I'm super lucky with my job, I work from home and get a lot of freedom in what I wear/dress. I pop on a nice sweater or button up for a client meeting and then I'm good to wear whatever. I'm able to have tattoos/piercing and it doesn't matter much. As someone who used to have to wear a suit to an office every day, I'm incredibly grateful that I'm able to express myself now.
But hairstyle is something that I can't change because I can't just take my hair off like I can take out my earrings. I'd LOVE to experiment with fun hair colors but it just isn't an option for me now and I don't really ever see it being one with my current job, which is one with 99% more freedom than other jobs.

I feel like with issues like this men just gotta start doing what they want, ignore the negative comments, and normalize it. Like any new fashion trend with women that got shit on, women just started wearing stuff, got called hoes, but then it got normalized and now it's no big deal.

People think something being normal means they won't get any negative reaction whatsoever. Men wearing jewelry has been normalized for thousands of years. There's for sure differences in gender there, but it not being normal enough isn't the problem.
