But for most of the times we travelled by train, especially by normal-speed trains (it''s called 特快/express train but we can consider it normal speed compared to the high-speed railway).
But more often we took the sleeper train, set off in the dusk and arrived in the morning, and the bus trip to Wuhan and the ferry across the river was always inevitable and always very soothing and fun.
Then when I went to senior middle school we stopped to travel because, you know, I have to study harder because of the Gaokao. Then when I went to collage at Beijing, I again took sleeper train there and back every semister. I love all those moments when the train ran across the suburban areas of Beijing and the towns and villages on the North China Plain and the day gradually going into the dark. These long trips never make me feel tired, the landscape and sceneries along the route repeated for four years for me but I never felt bored.
Sorry for all the twaddling in the comment section, it''s just the video suddenly brought me some nostalgia.

I love traveling like this and I believe it is a good way to stimulate the economy of those poorer areas of the country. Thailand is also doing the same thing too. I took the train from Bangkok to Ayuthya and it was approximately 2 hours 30 minutes train ride and only cost TBH28 on a 3rd class train ride and it was a real experience just like the one Stu took but not as comfortable.

10多年前我也是做类似的火车去上学。当然没这个那么慢，是当时的绿皮车，过道上挤满了人。当年也没网上订票和各种app，学生放了假公交去火车站，买最近的票，基本上买不到座的，只有站票。从郑州到商丘站俩小时回家。 一转眼都10多年了。
