Ah, hi. This is weird, but I know Dave. He and Cindy didn’t think Covid was a hoax, but they did think it was safe to travel, and that if they took precautions they would be fine.
I was kind of surprised they (and others in AZ) were traveling at all. However, he does wear masks and take precautions. He’s been pretty strong in dealing with her death and his health issues.
That doesn’t excuse him from voting for Trump. I think there are more people than we realize that voted for Trump in 2016, people that we know and associate with.
I don’t think Dave is a hero, or a complete idiot. I’m just commenting to provide some nuance, it’s interesting to see people tearing him apart in the comments here and on FB.
I think Dave, and my dad, and a lot of people, have used capitalism and Republican views as almost a religion for a long time—this is how they were taught, what they taught their kids, etc. I think it’s hard to see the view you believed in for your entire life is not helpful, it’s greedy and short-sighted, and leads to our society’s downfall.
For what it’s worth, I don’t think Dave was going to vote for Trump again prior to Cindy passing. But it sure didn’t help.

But by voting for Trump he allowed a president who was willing to do nothing be in charge and that is the real cost associated with trusting Trump to be a competent president that affects America as a whole and him personally. I don't wish him any more than he has already suffered. Hopefully, this teaches him something useful.

There are a ton of people that get sucked in to the "red team vs blue team" crap and don't actually understand domestic or foreign policy. Dave could be a person that takes politics and government more seriously now. Rather than focusing on the color red or blue. And also, id rather people be willing to admit their mistakes rather than wilfully shield their ego and stay in denial.
