Japan opened its doors in the 1600s, China in the 1700s, and central Asia west of Mongolia mixed with Caucasians and middle eastern people for centuries. And later all of central Asia, Mongolia included opened up to the Soviet unx. Korea closed its doors to Japan in the 1500s due to the imjin war, and rejected the west after seeing the ruin it caused both China and Japan.

China also isn''t a country, it''s a geographic location. China means middle kingdom. Anyone who lives or conquered the location was taken into Chinese history because of this fact. This people from Korea, Tibet, Mongolia etc. If they took over and had a dynasty or state in China, China called those people, Chinese. Thus to state “Chinese culture is oldest" is like saying “the assimilated culture of Asia in the most central location where all of the Asians had to pass through in order to travel to other places, is the oldest and most advanced"
Makes it kinda a “duhh" statement. A Han Chinese person who''s family lives and always lived in northern China is far far more genetically similar to a mongolian or korean, than another Han Chinese man from southern China. Ethnicity in Asia has been blended with nationality for a long time. Due to arguments about agriculture. Great wall was about the transition from nomadic to agricultural society. Some didn''t appreciate the switch.

First of all, Chinese is not actually an ethnicity. China comprises 66 officially recognized ethnic groups.
If you go back to historical evidence, then the oldest traces among the three of civilization can be found in what is now politically China. And it is Han Chinese. I’m not familiar with exact dates or geographies of the others, but I know we generally learned that Korea and Japan were later, with Japan being the latest. However, all of these cultures are pretty old as it is.
To simplify things without getting lengthy, there were two main known mass migrations occurring in this region. One was from the South West going upward through South East Asia and into central China, the other was going Westward and then downward and those became the Manchurian and Mongol type tribes and groups which eventually bled into what is now Korea and eventually Japan.
Of course, due to each country’s long history and other factors such as politics, each group is mixed with others to a certain extent.
When a civilization is as old as 6,000 or even 2,000 years, you’ll learn it’s very hard to measure when that civilization actually began coming at it from a modern perspective. The definition for what a civilization was get’s so blurred and changes over time.

In the beginning there were the Han people (now seen as "Chinese" people) coming up from the Tibetan plateau to the Yellow River basin, and the people on the Korean peninsula (proto-Koreans & proto-Japanese). The Han people were the first to develop a nation state concept, based on their ability to write and pre-confucian concepts of order. From this proto-nation many of the neighboring tribes were culturaly influenced. With the influencing/borrowing peaking during the Tang dynasty. After and during the Tang the Koreans and the Japanese having incorporated many aspects of the Chinese culture (no longer only Han culture) they went on to develop their own unique cultures.

China. Or more like, tribes that formed smaller countries inside of the territory of today’s China. Then they spread their influence to Japan and Korea. That’s why in both Korea and Japan basic writing was chinese hanzi. And then later, Japan and Korea developed their own writing systems. Most of Korean and Japanese cuisine originates from chinese dishes. Same goes for spread of buddhism (started in China and later was brought to Korea and Japan as a religion for noble people). You will find that in their clothing, architecture, etc. Of course later with time as those countries relationship started to change, they slowly developed their own style.

Let me give a wild guess here. My answer is Japanese came first among the three cultures.
Why? Just take a look at the map! If homo sapiens entered East Asia from the southwest or the south, definitely they would first occupy the best areas of the land, i.e. what is now China. There would be no reasons for them to migrate to places like Korea, a cold mountainous country or even Japan, an island. Ancient Koreans or Japanese must have lived in the mainland Asia but were driven out of their homes by the latecomers.
Therefore, Japanese culture must have come first because Japan is the end point of a migration route in East Asia. Behind Japan there is no way to go unless they would like to develop a culture over the sea, which is unlikely.

As there are still ongoing archaeological digs in China, Korea and Japan, it''s very hard to answer this question and not fair to say who comes first. It will be albeit to jumping to conclusion when we do not have all the puzzle pieces.
All 3 countries seemed to have develop their own culture independently around the same time in the Neolithic period. They developed their own crafts, tools, agriculture and pottery wares.
In addition, they devised their own socio-political systems to govern themselves.
It''s of course through trade that sometimes these cultures influenced each other.
Who came first? At this moment, too early to tell. So go support your country''s own archaeologists.

Although I am not Asian, I lived in Korea for four years. It is my understanding that there is a Chinese "base " culture that stayed with the outflow of civilization from early China through out Asia. In other words, people in modern China and from Burma around to Japan have a common, sheared culture. This is opposite to the many ethnic groups that emerged concurrently in Europe ( Celtic, Gemanic, Greek, Latin, etc.)

Facing that embarrassed problem,as a Chinese,I must stand in obxtive way.Anyhow,I think Chinese culture first come. The key is in wordage. No matter Japanese or Korean words ,they all can be traced back to Chinese words which was found by Cangjie according to historical story. Many people might find that some Japanese words are familiar to Chinese,So I think Chinese culture come early.

Cultures including language and forms of writing existed long before the ethnicity you labelled existed.
That would be millions of years ago.
The better question is, which is the most widely known culture to have existed first from a certain region? Let say Asia?
I would say the Yellow River civilization (China) and Dravidian Civilization (South India).
The Koreans and Japanese are later tribes of peoples who arrived near the Chinese civilization through migration and invasions that settled near them, who then imported ideas, cultures and technologies from the Chinese Yellow River Civilization.

about 35,000 years ago the ice sheets began to expand again. By this time, humans had spread to Siberia.the humans in the severe north produced the Mongoloid racial type. This race is best suited to survive extreme cold, with stocky build, small extremities, relatively little body or facial hair, flat faces, and fat padded eyes.[1]
however during Mesolithic era or during end of stone age the mongoloids or paleo Siberians began to mass migrate and expanded to fill the habitable areas: north, south, and northeast. This would have included North china,Mongolia, Siberia, Manchuria, and Beringia[2]
and the migratory pattern is more accurate, with the end of the last major Ice Age, we find archaeological traces of a hunting and gathering society from about 20,000 BC. These traces are found in China, Mongolia, Manchuria, and the Americas.
the first Asian culture to develop was obliviously in china through fromation of shang dynsaty The Shang ruled from 1600 to 1046 B.C in bronze age china The many of the key features of east asian culture is developed during this time .

It’s very hard to trace back when was the cultures actually founded. So let us just count the origin of culture as the start of the first dynasy.
If so, Certainly China without any doubts. And the fact that ancient China had massive influence on Japan and Korea can’t be denied and ignored. The first dynasty of China is Xia which started around 2070BC and ended at 1600BC. Well i know lots of foreign historians do not recognise Xia dynasty. Well then, let’s count Shang as the first then. Shang dynasty start at 1600BC and end at 1046BC.

According to legend, Korea first dynasty Gojoseon was founded by Dangun in 2333 BCE.
But as you can see.. LEGENDS. It also does not have strong evidences or proves for its actual year of establishment. So if people don’t recognise Xia which have relatively more evidences of existence, why would it be fair?!! I have my rights to doubt Korean Dungan found the dynasty in 2333BCE while it’s your freedom to believe Xia is not real. (Who the heck can live up to 1908 years old anyways? Ppl who believe it consult a doctor)So let’s count Gija Joseon as the first. (Although Gija himself is also a mythological figure)(and it’s believe that Gija is from Shang dynasty)Korean first dynasty should come around 1000BCE.
Japan it’s probably the latest among three. Even its LEGEND stated its first emperor was Jimmu founded in 660BCE.

And Korea and Japan cultures are very much adobted, changed, or even improved from the ancient China. This is a fact you just can’t deny. China is the central powerhouse in east Asia for the last at least 2500 years. Its influences over neighbouring countries are significant and very obvious even in today. When i talk about the China influence don’t use your stereotypes of China today to judge and view the ancient China. After all China today is completely different to ancient China itself to the point that i would say Japan and Korea looks more like the ancient China to me in terms of cultures, traditions, architectures and so on. Modern China had pretty much thrown away most of its valuable traditions and cultures over the last 200 years(Manchurian Qing rule, western influences, japanese invasion, communist rule, the cultural revolution)
Korea was actually a tribute of (satellite states)China in differenf periods whether you like it or nor.

IN Han dynasty, Early Jin dynasty, Tang dynasty, Yuan dynasty(i guess we can ignore this since China itself is being conquered by Mongols) Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty(again we can ignore Qing since China itself is being ruled by Manchurians) i am lazy to give proofs for these, so if you have specific doubts over particular era when Korea was a tribute to China then just question me in comment.
Korea today pretty much look a lot like Ming dynasty. Please don’t say it’s a coincidence or Ming copied Korea because it is not. Ming and Korean Joseon dynasty had rather a very close and friendly relations. Ming was very much like a big bro to Korea at that time and many traditions, systems was adobted to Korea diring that time. Hanbok is a good example.
As for Japan it has a huge influence from Tang dynasty.
Japan sent lots of 遣唐使 (kentoshi)to China to study cultures, buddism and so on during SuiTang dynasties.

And for more information search up 大化の改新. Japan was crazy about importing China Tang political systems, laws, cultures, religions and even fashion during the nara period.

Ive heard that Nara and kyoto was built in the model of Chang’An city capital of Tang. Might be true in the old times but the modern Nara and kyoto certainly changed a lot just like Chang’An itself had vanished from the history(Today Xi’An is more like a Ming qing city).
But for both countries the most important influence is the confucius. And you can see confucius way of life, ideas and values in Japanese and Korean daily lives very much. Not so much in china tho, how ironic. China had always been the 礼仪之邦(the most polite and civilised) in history thanks to the confucius, but the modern China ehhh i do not really think so. China yet abondoned another its own valuable culture and Japan and Korea are the ones that inherit it.

Well as conclusion i would say China cultures is the earliest and had its influence to its neighbours such as Korea and Japan massively. Korea and japan combined cultures they learnt from china and their own native cultures to improve and become the Korea and Japan we know today. As for China, although it’s the origin of the east asia culture and the eldest, if it still don’t realise the dangers of throwing its own traditions and cultures away, one day they will certainly regret it. It would be sad for Chinese people to not even know their own cultures well. (Search up for the chengdu hanfu girl incident)
P.S. If you want to feel the real ancient China, sorry you cant find them in China tho. Instead i recommend Japan. I am a three kingdoms and Tang fan myself. Japan is like the perfect place to ‘travel back’ to the ancient China especially Kyoto and nara.(of course if you wanna see ming dynasty you can still come to china)
Apology…Sorry that i didnt answer ethnicity i dont know about that much. But i do believe three races are from the same origins, not sure where, not sure when.
