Trump news – live: President’s fault US is ‘significantly worse’ off than rest of world, Zuckerberg says as Mary Trump’s book breaks record sales

The US has reported its biggest leap in daily coronavirus cases so far with 77,255 new cases on Thursday - which is more than triple what the daily figures were just three weeks ago.

There were also 943 new deaths reported, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

In total the US now has 3,576,157 cases and has recorded 138,358 deaths due to the deadly disease.

Despite these fears, White House press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany told reporters “the science should not stand in the way of this.” Moments later she then said: “The science is on our side here.

The UN has warned that at the current rate, the pandemic and economic crisis could “push 265 million people to the point of starvation by the end of the year” and now risks causing the first increase in global poverty in 30 years.
