As a child been living in both countries, I can say that both have throwbacks, as well as things I want to come back for .
People in Singapore highly respect its authority, they respect the rules and feared the authorities governing the country.

Singapore has a very friendly weather and clear sky. It was summer all round year with cyclic rain season. While HK has an extreme weather season, and prone to air pollution. Located in Eastern Asia, HK frequently hit by typhoon in certain months. I remembered people were not allowed to go outside if the typhoon reached T8, while schools, offices, flights and bus services remained closed.
People in Singapore are very friendly, from cab drivers, 1-dollar uncle ice ream, random people on the street. Compare this to taxi drivers in HK, who doesn’t know English and drive uncarefully.
People in Singapore use their own English: Singlish, and people in HK use their own Mandarin: Cantonese. It is very hard to keep track with Singlish at the first time, but you get used to it.
Singapore’s motto is ‘Zero crime doesn’t mean no crime’. I remember the poster was all over the place. Even having a very low crime rate (Singapore was one of the safest country in the world), people were still be alx to keep caution. I tested this theory once with my father, we left our belongings on a park bench for an hour and came back to find it was still there. No one seems want to touch anything not their personal belongings.

I went to visit Singapore and Hong Kong this year. I am speaking as a tourist.
IMO, Singapore is better overall.
Food in Singapore is highly varied since it’s a multicultural country. There is a lot to choose from, not to mention the way they handle street food there, it is generally more careful and cleaner. I didn’t need to give it a second thought on whether or not I was gonna buy something. In Hong Kong, I couldn’t do that.
Pollution level is very minimal in Singapore. Contrary to what I read online, I believe the air is fresh and comfortably breathable.. and I come from a green country where fresh air is predominant. In HK, the sun is, most of the time, blocked by the surrounding air (especially in the city centre), hence the gloomy atmosphere.
The people of both countries are blunt, which I like because there’s no BS and it’s efficient communication. I am not one to nitpick, but I find Singaporeans way nicer. The problem is, I find my judgment unfair because it always depends on who you meet during your travel. Every single person I met and befriended (kinda) in Singapore was nice to me and they spoke in a way I consider civil. Most of the Hong Kong-ers I talked to were nice, it’s just they seemed angry and always in a hurry even though they were not.

Money. I am biased in favour of Singapore again because their currency and ours are interchangeable, it’s just things are very expensive there. The Purchasing Power Parity thing makes sense to me because if an item looks like it costs a dollar, it’s really a dollar. In HK, if something looks like it costs a dollar… it does… but it’s disguised as HKD6.00. That figure faks me up big time when I am buying even a small bag that costs hundreds of HKD, which seems expensive but actually not. I had to always take out my phone to get on the currency converter.
Places to visit. Both have lots of interesting places to visit. For non-authentic places, Singapore wins. In fact, they kinda spoiled my visit to HK which happened a few months later. The zoos, museums and parks are so world class in Singapore that I found similar places in HK quite boring.
I still enjoyed HK though, mainly because of the lower temperature (during my visit) and its authenticity. They live a life of not trying to please people, they just want to survive. Tourist who? Right, they won’t treat you any better than they do with their own people. If I were to stay in HK to work, I’d find it easier to adapt to their lifestyle as they won’t make it any easier for you to stay in your own foreign bubble that the only way to survive is to be like them. I mean, I was shocked to hear white and even black people in HK subways speaking Cantonese to the locals! :D
