Since its creation in 2010, ltaaa has been servicing Chinese netizens with one goal in mind, that is, to help them get to know the world better.
Unlike mainstream media, which focus their reporting almost exclusively on major news events and official viewpoints, ltaaa places equally great, if not greater, emphasis on common foreign netizens' opininons, which we hope could shed a light into how the rest of the world see China and themselves. Unflattering or even disparaging as they might be at times, the unfiltered, genuine comments from all over the world are also a way for us to foster a sense of tolerance and open-mindedness among Chinese netizens. It's our unwavering belief that ltaaa can serve as an open window through which common Chinese people get to see the rest of the world in its true, unadulterated colors, while giving the rest of the world glimpses at how Chinese netizens react to other people's opinions that differ from theirs. It is this role, as a platform for world netizens to exchange their views freely on, that we intend ltaaa to fulfill.
(Diversity) ltaaaprides itself on its vast base of volunteers with various backgrounds, from China and other countries all over the world. Among them are our compatriots from HK, Macau and TW, students overseas and ethnic Chinese.
While the original sources of our translations are predominantly in English, our volunteers also cover sources in other major languages such as Japanese, German, Spanish and French, as well as minor ones like Kazakh. The topics that have been covered include politics, economics, military, history, sports, culture, entertainment, science and technology, and so on.
(Fairness) We impose strict rules prohibiting ad hominem to ensure discussions are carried on in a civil manner.
(Credibility) To fight fabricated stories that are rampant on the internet, we require contributors to cite the sources of their contributions.
(Quality) To ensure the quality of the translation as well as to help our volunteer base grow and mature, we put in place a system that sees experienced contributors mentoring the inexperienced ones in the way of proofreading the translations done by the latter.
(Objectivity/impartiality) To present Chinese readers with an objective and impartial view of the world, we ask our contributors not to cherry pick foreign comments based on their own tastes.
At ltaaa, the admin team strive within their means to keep the forum a place that is fun (to hang around), fresh (in content) and, last but not least, free (to all).
